Canadian author David Morrell created the Green Beret character "John Rambo". The book was later adapting for screens. Stallone starred in First Blood (1982) with Richard Crenna & Brian Dennehy. The film was a surprise success and polarized the public because it addressed the Vietnam War which was still fresh in Americans' minds. The movie, despite its political beliefs and its international appeal, became a huge hit. The sequel, Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), was released in 1985. The film was met with greater criticism for its narrative that implied that American MIAs were held in Vietnam. They say that there's no bad publicity. And "John Rambo's" second adventure was an enormous money-maker for Stallone and solidified his status as one of the most recognizable male stars of the 1980s. Stallone experienced a huge surge in popularity and called Rocky Balboa his old sparring partner. He returned to the ring to safeguard American pride against an alleged Soviet threat, which was a Russian boxer who was dubbed Ivan Drago (played by curt Dolph Ludgren in Rocky IV (1985). With the violence level in the final installment of the series being exaggerated, it was a controversy among "Rocky" fans. The violence level was higher than prior Rocky movies.
